well not the best last night, missed some great chances last night and then on Saturday we have one shot and bang - goal!
Spose that's football, anyway nice to have a break from league action with three cup games as the next three fixtures. Hopefully we can progress in one if not both comps. Big ask but I think we've got enough about us to do well.
match Report
Fisher FC 0
Sevenoaks Town 1
St Aimee OG 68
20th October 2009
Attendance 88
A Simon St Aimee own goal was all that separated Fisher and Sevenoaks last night at Champion Hill. St Aimee was unfortunate to see his attempted clearance from a low cross into the six yard box fly into the net under pressure from two opposing forwards. However the centre back remained one of the teams better performers on the night as Fisher defended doggedly for the long spells.
Despite the defeat it should be acknowledged the strides Gary Lisney's side are making as the Fish evolve into a compact unit not to be taken lightly. Over the past month, the benefits have been plain to see from being able to put out a settled XI, having permanent training facilities and also a terrific work rate.
Chances were few and far between in a stop-start first half as the visitor's suffered two injuries which resulted in the referee playing an additional twelve minutes in the opening period. Sevenoaks were on top in the initial exchanges as the Fish had the post and a last gasp goal line clearance from skipper Kris Hollidge to thank as the score somehow remained level. The hosts became stronger as the half progressed, Rafael Akala with Fisher's first notable effort on goal after 30 minutes. Town's midfield seemed to part like the Red Sea allowing the winger space to run on goal before unleashing a vicious shot that grazed the foot of the far post.
Five minutes later, Fish should have taken the lead but Sevenoaks keeper Sean Funnell produced a terrific double save in an amazing goal mouth scramble that was worth the entrance money alone. From a corner Wayne Grant rose highest to power home a header but the keeper clawed it away. The loose ball fell to Elstrom Die but his effort rebounded off the left post, the ball looped back for Grant to attempt a goalbound overhead kick but Funnell leaped across his line in the style of Gordon Banks to tip the effort round the right post.
In the second half, Sevenoaks emerged the stronger and after sustained pressure Fisher's resistance finally cracked as St Aimee put through his own net. Gary Lisney's side responded well as the Gaffer threw caution to the wind sending on forward Steve O'Donnell and tricky winger Taser Hassan. Another exciting goal mouth scramble followed but Sevonoaks blocked a trio of well struck close range drives before Die headed onto the roof of the net. Eight minutes from time, Hassan slid the ball through to Grant but the striker with just the keeper to beat shot narrowly over the bar.
Fisher are at home once again this Saturday 24th October when league leaders Faversham Town visit Champion Hill in the first leg of the Kent League Cup, kick off 3pm.
