LEAGUE RESULT: Beckenham Town 0 Fisher 1 / Next League Match: Home this Tuesday – Sevenoaks Town
Beckenham Town 0
Fisher FC 1
Die 77
Attendance 145
Fisher stretched their unbeaten run to four games with this smash and grab victory over high flying Beckenham Town. Beckenham were made to pay for wayward finishing as league top scorer Elstrom Die notched his ninth of the season thirteen minutes from time. Nicky Blue could only push out Steve O’Donnell’s drive from the edge of the area straight to Die who netted the rebound to the delight of the sizable away following.
Fisher were without winger Tasser Hassan who pulled up with a slight groin strain prior to kick off and struggled for creativity in a tight first half of few chances for either side.
In the second period events livened up as Fisher enjoyed their best spell of the game but were unable to make their superior possession count. Beckenham looked dangerous from set pieces but found keeper Adam Lisney in solid form. Former Fisher player Charlie Hearn turned out for the home side but had a relatively quiet game not looking match fit. The set piece specialist had one opportunity from a free kick on the edge of the area on 70 minutes but Lisney was relieved to see the effort sail over the bar. That was as close as Beckenham came before Die settled things with a fox in the box finish.
A delighted Fisher Manager Gary Lisney said after the game; ‘The players gave me everything and they all chipped in today. I’m really pleased with our development and it was a great response after a very poor performance away to Sporting Bengal last weekend. Against Sporting Bengal I was disappointed we didn’t win as we were 3-2 up with five minutes left but football has a funny way of balancing out over the course of a season. Was a draw a fair result today, probably, but we’ll take the win.’ Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game at home to Sevenoaks the gaffer said; ‘The key now is to make sure we’re at the races in every game we play. It’s no good turning over the top sides and then if we let our level drop against the teams in and around us we get turned over on our own patch. We must guard against complacency and I expect another excellent performance from the team on Tuesday.’
**In other news winger Tasser Hassan will go on trial this week at League One Gillingham. Lisney commented; ‘Taz turned up with a slight groin strain yesterday at Beckenham and to be honest I could have still played him but it’s no good him going to Gillingham injured and we didn’t want to put the lads chances at risk. I’ve got to do right by my players, I keep emphasising we’re all about giving people opportunities so we hope it goes well for Taz this week’.
Looking at Fisher’s London Senior Cup campaign this season the manager said; ‘I was pleased to get passed Kingsbury Tigers in the first round, they were a very decent side and I expect another tough game at Harringey Borough. I said to the chairman before the season began I wanted to have a go in this competition and mark my words the first eleven will be turning out in every game we play in the London Senior Cup.’
