The new Fisher battled excellently in front of a good Monday night crowd at Champion Hill.
Elstrom Die scored the historic first goal, but Fish were undone at the end by a sweet Beckenham move. Still an excellent nights entertainment, with Fisher playing some lovely football at times.
Most importantly the night was a success on and off the pitch.

Yes an excellent night for the club and an encouraging start for the new Fisher FC. Excellent turnout which looked closer to 400 than the 222 we declared. The trick is to encourage those people to come back week in, week out.
Definately got our fivers worth entertainment last night! Terrific goal from Elstrom, shame we couldn't hold on for the draw but although heartbreaking to concede so late on I thought Beckenham probably deserved it on balance of play.
But considering we had no side three weeks ago and no money to spend on players, we lived with Beckenham for long periods and had some excellent chances ourselves.
Great to see a Fisher side attacking again in a good end to end encounter. And goals like that from Elstrom make all the effort, expense and time given up worthwhile.
C'MON THE FISH!!!!

Thought it was an entertaining enough game, though I do think Beckenham shaded it, without a doubt. But then with their wage bill they should be expected to! As you'd expect for 'big budget' clubs, regardless of level, from your previous incarnation days! ;-) A wonderful turn out, helped by curious groundhoppers & Dulwich Hamlet fans of course, but it's a long time since I've seen such a buzz from the Fisher faithful. Baldy in goal is going to be a quality player...I saw him many times last season in the Hamlet youth side, & you've 'cheery picked' some good players from that squad we had. Good luck to them, hopefully they will hold their own & learrn quickly at county league level, much earlier than they might have done at a higher standar Ryman South club. I can't let Joe's comment about the crowd go without comment...over 400? Maybe...if you're suffering from 'double vision'! I thought 222 was honest enough, which is what I'd expect from an open Supporters' run club! ;-) I'm sure you're not going to kid yourself that it's going to be anything other than a long, hard season as an amateur club, there will be more lows than highs I fear, but I'm sure you're expecting that. You're certainly not going to be a 'Sporting Bengal'! & with it being such a small division would expect you to be above half way. I think though, to all of you, the result was a choker, conceding a last minute winner, but in the overal scheme of things it was immaterial...the most important thing is that you've managed to set up & establish a new Fisher Football Club in a couple of months. I know you know this...but it really is something to be proud of!

Thanks Mishi - somewhere between the mad rushing about trying to keep it all organised, the joy of our mini-comeback and the 'roar' from the bus shelter, the deflation of the late goal, and the tired packing up at the end, I think we all got that moment when we looked about us and felt very proud of reaching the milestone of the first game and knowing it was a success in everything but the result.
I think we do all know that it will be a long hard season off the pitch, as we grapple with the inevitable financial challenges on this path. Last night was great, but much stiffer tests await, and we are going to have to work hard to get more people involved. On the pitch I think it's pretty unpredictable - Beckenham did shade it on clear cut chances last night (though we created some of their best chances) - and our goalie wasn't man of the match for nothing! But in spells we played some really good stuff going forward, and we did create 2 very good chances to go 2-1 up ourselves. We made too many errors rather than being outclassed I thought, and these boys have had a very short time to gel, so provided they stick together, who knows how much better a team we could be in 3/4 weeks?
Of course, the much mooted 'high player turnover' could mean that we are in such a situation repeatedly this season, but we'll be doing all we can to make our players feel wanted and appreciated and will hope for the best when it comes to tests of their loyalty.
Bring on Greenwich, and c'mon the Fish!

Glad you enjoyed it Mishi!
Seriously though we've got the opportunity here to create a good football club where supporters are valued and appreciated with no fleecing in sight. The bank manager might not like it that we're the cheapest to watch in the Kent League but we've got to stay true to our principles and do everything in our power to encourage people to come back!
Seeing other fan clubs like the Wombles charging £16 for a Blue Square Premier game makes me sick to be honest.
Anyway the day die-hard Duwich supporter Mishi crosses the floor to join us - then our work here will be complete! ;-)

Tell you something - you really appreciate supporters turning up when your on the turnstile. Not least how hard you have to push to get through the bloody thing!
But this is it - people have chosen to come out and spend their money on watching our team. And we need to make it as enjoyable an experience for them as possible so they keep coming back. The players did their bit with their effort and enthusiasm, and I think we were friendly, welcoming, provided a good programme, an opportunity to peruse our merchandise... it was a good night out for a very reasonable sum.
Saturday will be different - no historical significance, Millwall at home... but it's just as important in terms of our development of a club to determine what a realistic weekend attendance would be and what we need to do to build on that.

Joe sorry mate...you jst can't change your team! Stuck with the Hamlet I'm afraid! ;-) But like many Hamlet fans I've never had much against the Fish. The Borough can easily support two non-league sides, just one at each end of the borough! With regard to Saturday, well there won't be many away fans in the Kent League, as I'm sure you're aware, so if you get a three figure crowd then I think that should be classed as a great success, & if you can maintain that, with a few bigger midweek ones, you'll certainly be one of the best supported sides in the division. Good luck! And yes Tim, the turnstile does take a while to get used to. You trying to wangle a 'transfer' back to the microphone then? ;-)

Well, what an unmititigated success, monday night was. Obviously there were some extremely serious teething problems,,the embarrasment of not having a legible teamsheet available, for our first game, the copier at Dulwich Hamlet not working is not an excuse.Secondly, the lavatories in the clubhouse area need to be working prperley.Thirdly,if people are asked to do security, would it not be fairer, to give, them some chance,of doing this job prpperly,,if we could at least get a metal bar on the gate,A bit of communication in the Boardroom would also be usefull, enough sandwiches to at least ensure that there are some left for the officials , would, be slightly, more polite..By the way, , could i not be known as a committee member,as a matchday assistant, suggests, that any other contributions imake are worthless,.
